Job Opportunities

Museum Experience Associate- Part-Time
Job Description: The Museum Experience Associate assists in maintaining the Museum Store as a profitable retail business operation while actively seeking ways to support programs through store operations. S/he is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and museum information, sales, the accurate recording of sales transactions, and merchandise display.  The Museum Experience Associate will also assist with selling admissions, memberships, and tickets to education programs, special events and performances.

Essential Job Functions:
Welcome Center duties:

  • Greet and direct all visitors when they arrive
  • Supports a positive customer experience, providing guests with a unique, enthusiastic and informational experience
  • Answers phones and provide museum information or transfer calls to appropriate staff member in a timely manner
  • Sell tickets and other items to customers
  • Resolve customer complaints
  • Keep store and information racks clean, stocked and organized

Operational duties:

  • Observes and supports all museum rules and policies.
  • Correctly operates a cash register
  • Receives all applicable forms of payment and issues receipts, refunds, credits or change to customers
  • Count money in cash drawers at the start and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and there is adequate change
  • Ensure availability of merchandise and services by maintaining inventories.
  • Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean environment.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Education:  High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience:  1 to 2 years in a retail or customer service position
  • Required Skills:  Customer service and computer proficiency
  • Physical Requirements:  Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.  Must able to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.

Graphic Designer- Part-Time

Job Description: The Graphic Designer develops and implements design solutions that impact and shape the National Hellenic Museum’s visitor experience. He/she works closely with the Marketing, Exhibits, Education, and Development teams to design and implement engaging pieces that communicate the Museum’s message; maintain and enhance the Museum’s visual identity and brand;  and express the National Hellenic Museum’s position as a dynamic cultural institution.

Essential Job Functions:
The Graphic Designer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Graphic Design
    • Responsible for executing the creative, design, and implementation of all print and digital assets
    • Management of small creative projects including communicating with partners and sponsors, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring project deliverables are completed to a high standard of excellence
    • Apply (and create) brand guidelines, values, and relevance throughout the design creation and execution process
    • Work closely with the Museum videographer to maintain the integrity of the Museum’s visual identity
    • Provide quality assurance for all creative work
    • Work with external vendors to ensure quality and cost effectiveness
    • Manage interns
  • Marketing
    • Assist in special projects, such as the Greek-American History Project, Museum functions and events, and videography
    • Work with team leads, directors, and stakeholders to determine digital direction for projects
    • Contribute to new directives involving the strategic plan, including insights on digital strategies and identity
    • Maintain ongoing dialogue regarding evolving technology needs
    • Demonstrate a desire to learn all disciplines of digital marketing and technology, specifically non-profit and museum focused
    • Handle miscellaneous email correspondence from the public
  • Website
    • Responsible for helping to create and edit information on Museum website
    • Troubleshoot issues and continually improve site to generate inquiries and awareness for its offerings
    • Work from wireframes to create user centric page designs
    • Keep up-to-date on web trends and limitations (especially in online marketing)
    • Advocate for, experiment with and guide the user experience on the website
    • Lead, support and defend best practices and user-centered design decisions
    • Assist in quality assurance tasks to prepare projects for launch
    • Evolve understanding of content and conversion optimization and implementation
    • Plan information architecture by studying website concept, strategy, and target audience
  • PR
    • Assist the Director of Museum Experience with the writing, editing, copying, proofreading, design, and production of press releases and newsletters, advertisements, exhibition materials, and Museum signage when applicable
    • Provide to the media and public any branded marketing campaigns for new and existing initiatives as needed, including comprehensive marketing plans, logos, taglines, branded print collateral, promotional items, and original marketing copy
    • Maintain and store photo/graphic files for media kits for the public, sponsors, or vendors
    • Assemble and distribute press kits
    • Create and update department PowerPoint presentations

Essential Job Requirements:

Education: Must have a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in the graphic design field, with active involvement in projects from conception through production
  • Strong print and digital portfolio experience

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated typographic and conceptual abilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under pressure
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to speak one-on-one or to a group to discuss and/or present designs and layouts to persons with varying levels of design knowledge
  • Proficiency with Mac OS; ability to troubleshoot minor hardware and software issues
  • Working experience and thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver), HTML/XHTML, CSS, and multimedia applications on the Mac and PC platform
  • Knowledge of email marketing and social media programs

Preferred Skills:

  • Desire to learn emerging technologies
  • Driven, creative, and quick to learn
  • Experience supervising interns
  • Knowledge of paper stocks, printing techniques, inks, print production, finishing, and      bindery
