Birthday Parties at NHM

Do you have a Percy Jackson fan in your family? Is your child mad about mythology? Celebrate your child’s birthday with a party at the Museum! Whether its a 1st, 5th or 12th birthday, we know that birthdays should be something special! We now offer spectacular packages to make your child’s birthday fun and memorable, including a museum guide and a variety of add-on activities, such as crafts and a Museum gift bag.

Birthday Party Package includes:

  • All day Museum access for party guests
  • Private party room for 2 hours
  • A dedicated Birthday Party Facilitator
  • Special guided Museum experience designed for the birthday child
  • Free NHM pencil for each guest (upgraded party bags available)
  • Tables, chairs & table covers
  • 20 multi-colored balloons tied to chairs (additional balloons $.50 each)

Party Pricing

  • Level 1: (1-20 children & 3 Adults) – $300
  • Level 2: (21-30 children & 6 Adults) – $400
  • Level 3: (31-40 children & 9 Adults) – $500

*A party over 40 children must be moved to the Special Events hall where the policies and procedures for private space rentals will be applied.

If you have less than the maximum number of children for your selected party, you are permitted to substitute additional adults for those spots. Beyond that, each additional adult is $10.

NHM members receive a 10% discount on a birthday party of any size!

  • Tuesdays / Wednesdays / Fridays – 4pm-6pm
  • Saturdays & Sundays – 11am – 1pm & 3pm – 5pm

Please note: Please allow 48 hours for a staff member to follow up on your inquiry. Date and time slots will not be held until your Party Reservation Form and deposit payment have been received and a confirmation from the Birthday Party Coordinator has been sent. Your deposit will not be processed unless your desired date and time slot are available.

Payment

To expedite the party reservation process, we recommend paying your non-refundable birthday deposit ($75) by credit card. To pay by credit card, please complete the payment section of the Party Reservation Form. Your card will be charged once your preferred time slot is confirmed. If you prefer to pay by check, please make checks payable to the National Hellenic Museum and send to the Museum at the above address. The remaining party payment will be processed on the day of the party.

Confirmation

Once your Party Reservation Form is processed and confirmed you will be sent additional information, including invitations and a guest list. The guest list should be filled out and sent via fax or email to the Museum no later than one week prior to your birthday party date. Additional charges will apply for guests that exceed your birthday party package allotment. The maximum occupancy of the birthday party room is 40 people.

Food and Drink

You are permitted to bring cold food, cake and refreshments for your birthday party. If you would like to order food for your party, you may do so 48 hours prior from our approved vendors:

  • Giordano’s

The Museum does not provide refrigeration or heating equipment for food/drinks. The Museum does not supply cake plates, napkins and eating utensils for your guests.

Age Recommendation

Our museum is suitable for all ages, from toddler to teen. Parties are geared toward children turning five to ten years of age. However, we are able to accommodate all ages.

Décor & Entertainment

A party at NHM is a unique experience and an extension of the Museum and our mission. You are welcome to bring party decorations, but we do not allow anything to be taped, tacked or hung on the party room walls. Any repairs caused by damage to the room will be charged to you. Likewise, balloons, sparklers, bubbles, silly string, confetti, glitter, piñatas, and outside entertainment are not permitted. You may bring an IPod or CD player if you wish.

Parking & Storage

The Museum does not provide reserved parking or storage for party items. The party host may arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled party time and use the loading zone on Gladys Street to unload any party items. A Birthday Party Facilitator will escort you to the party room for set up. Earlier access to the room is not permitted. All personal and party items must be removed at the conclusion of the party.

Gifts

In order to maximize the NHM birthday party experience, we discourage the opening of birthday gifts during the party. Please do not plan to open presents during your time at the Museum.

Museum Staff

Our staff is not permitted to assist in decorating party room, serve food to your guests, nor do they clean up after refreshments are served. That is the sole responsibility of the host. Trash containers are provided for you to use in leaving the party room.

Party Schedule

Please remind your guests to meet in the Museum lobby prior to the start of the party. Your Birthday Party Facilitator will greet guests and guide them to the party space where the celebration will begin. Your guests may continue to enjoy the Museum after the conclusion of the party. Please make sure that all personal and party items are removed from the party space before doing so.

Cancellation/Change of Date

At least two weeks notice is required to change the party date. In the event of a cancellation, the Museum will retain the non-refundable deposit.
