Monumental

Architecture is the backdrop against which we play out the drama of our lives. It has immense impact on the places in which we live, recreate, worship, gather, govern, and learn. In this interactive children’s exhibit, children will develop a greater understanding of scale and proportion in relation to math and art, the idea of buildings as vehicles for symbolism, and the scientific properties of light and shadow.

The Greeks, known for their simple, clean style, were masters of post and lintel construction. Fluted columns supported ornately carved pediments and panels that illustrated important stories of the gods. This exhibition is the perfect introduction to architecture for children. The Akropolis illustrates the quest for perfection in engineering, beauty and the majestic scale that is found in monuments.
